The Law Dog’s Top 10 reasons to hate on the New England Patriots

My friend Ryan — aka The Law Dog — is hands down one of the funniest kids you will ever meet. When it comes to sports, he is possibly the single funniest. He enjoys his libations as much as the next guy during sporting events. You can just see him stewing over a bad call or a team he loathes, and when he explodes… pure comedy erupts.

Yesterday he text me:

Law Dog: Here are 10 reasons everyone should hate the Patriots. Run that on your blog.

The Wayniac: Awesome! I will.

Law Dog: Wait, really?

I know — especially because of The Wifeyiac — that I have a pretty large New England Patriots following. I know some of you will have some choice words. Deal with it. You have been to six Super Bowls in the amount of time that my favorite team has been in existence. People don’t like your team, because they don’t like winners. So sit back and welcome The Law Dog to Wayniac Nation.

NFL Officiating aka How to Succeed Without Really Trying

This has been the most bizarre NFL season that I can remember. Some football teams — like my Houston Texans and the Atlanta Falcons — seemingly reached the sixth game of the season and did a complete 180. One is spiraling downward and the other — my Texans — is on the rise.

Injuries have taken their toll worse than I can remember since 1999. I only remember 1999 because of how many first round draft picks went out in my fantasy league by week three. That was the year that Terrell Davis and Jamal Anderson blew out their legs, amongst a bevy of others. This year is worse. Every week, the NFL is losing a superstar — if not two — and the Patriots lose a third of their roster. It’s insane.

And then there is the officiating. How in the world is this being allowed to happen? It’s offensive to the die hard fans of the NFL that Roger Goodell allows these horrendous calls to happen each week. But then again, it’s Roger Goodell. He’s too busy soaking in his millions to actually care about his league.

The NFL referees are awful. Here’s why.

NFL Sundays with SBJ: The third time’s the charm, right?

This week, SBJ is back with his picks. It’s the holiday time of year. While everyone needs a little bit thicker wallets this time of year, emotions always run high. Don’t understand? Well, here… I’ll let SBJ explain.

NCAA College Football playoff picture

I love covering DII sports. It seems every week, you find a feel good story about a program that has worked hard to rebuild their program to a competitive level. While there are still dominant teams like DI that always find themselves in the mix, the playoffs bring an extra level in excitement that gives many teams a chance.

This year alone, Women’s Field Hockey saw Coach Sandy Miller finally grab her elusive National Championship as head coach of East Stroudsburg Warriors. Now, the football bracket sees a few teams trying to make their move.

Today the Emporia State Hornets take on the Henderson State Reddies. The Hornets are fresh of their first playoff win — an instant classic that they won 51-49 on a last second field goal to overcome the largest deficit in the programs history — in the school’s 25 years as a DII program. At the helms is head coach Garin Higgins. Higgins also happened to be at the helms as quarterback the last time the Hornets won a playoff game as an NAIA program. Like I said… feel good stories.

The NFL Rundown with SBJ: What the heck is going on?

I don’t know who Angelo Cataldi is. I have never heard him speak anywhere, and certainly not on the Philadelphia airways. SBJ knows who he is — and while I can’t agree or disagree with SBJ —  he’s clearly not happy with him. So much so, that he is questioning his entire allegiance to his favorite football team. In this week’s rundown, SBJ ponders life as an Eagles fan while still coming at you with his daily dose of what went right and wrong in last week’s prime time games. Without further ado… take it away Sportsbook Jesus.

Chip Kelly, Jim Bob Cooter and the Packers in today’s random thoughts

Hope everyone had a good Turkey Day and is as stuffed as the feathered friends we feasted on last night. It was an interesting day of football to say the least. We saw two highly lopsided wins and one upset that may have changed the tide in the NFC North. So… what happened yesterday?

3 takeaways from Thanksgiving in the NFL

UPDATED Fantasy Football Start em and Sit em for Week 12

Note from the Wayniac: These are new starts and sits from several other Wayniac Nation experts as well as updated starts from yesterday’s post. Good luck and Happy Thanksgiving!

Last week was a wild one. Unlike the previous two weeks, it was not a high scoring affair. Much like the past 11 weeks, more key fantasy starters went down with injury: Devonta Freeman left in the first quarter with a concussion, Justin Forsett and Joe Flacco both went down for the season, and Michael Floyd, Marshawn Lynch and Emmanuel Sanders were late scratches after we were led to believe they would be starting.

Ahhhh…. life as a fantasy GM. The good news is that byes are over, right? Should make these Week 12 starts and sits a bit easier for everybody.

Happy Thanksgiving from Wayniac Nation

I know I have a lot to be thankful for this fine morning. While a lot of it surrounds the future of my personal Wayniac Nation, it also has to do with my family traveling from afar and standing in my kitchen preparing our meal with The Wifeyiac. I am also very thankful for you guys, the people who read this blog and have been a part of the greatest experience of my life.

I am definitely thankful for the Wayniac Nation team and contributors, present and past — Varrass, Mary, the Sports Illuminati, Amelia, Saucy T, Nomi the Greek, Sperry Mason, Kid Robot, The Englishman, Nick the Greek, Holloway, Mark.9 the Game, SBJ, Benny Smalls, Dunton, Teddy Ballgame, J.D., Fee the Commish, my brother and of course… The Wifeyiac.

I am also thankful — as are much of you — that we get a full slate of football as the backdrop to our Thanksgiving activities. While the athletes and teams deserve praise, let’s not forget to be thankful for the people behind the scenes. The guys and gals that sit behind the camera, the social media manager who tweets out updates so you can sneak a peek at some scores while your family is driving you bananas, the beat reporters who have the recap ready for you the second the game is over in case you were busy in the kitchen or behind the bar.

I do it. I have to travel to cover events, and being away from my wife and family is the only part of my job that isn’t fun. I can only imagine that it is intensified on a holiday that is all about eating and relaxing… and watching football. So let’s not forget the “little guys”.

Whether you are one of the crazies who think this holiday is about shopping, or one of the people like me who think this is a day for celebrating thanks by eating so much you are unthankful you ever did… enjoy your day and Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Mark Richt and Les Miles in this morning’s random thoughts

I moved to Georgia 12 years ago. College football was never really my thing, as the only team I rooted for was my alma mater, the mighty Fighting Blue Hens. So, when I came here — and realized that Saturday’s were religion — I had to choose between rooting for the Yellow Jackets or Bulldogs. My friend Sparky took me to a weekend in Athens… the choice became very easy.

I chose the Bulldogs, and while I never really became a die hard fan, I have continued to root for them as well as their alum in the NFL that I watched. Since I never bled red and black like some of these southerners do, I always thought the Fire Mark Richt jibber jabber was just angry fans venting, like I always do over any coaches and managers of my team after a season ends without a championship. Now, I kind of get it… and it has nothing to do with Mark Richt.

Why is it finally time for Richt to go?
