Three Big Story Lines for Week 9 in the NFL

I told you. The Dallas Cowboys are a joke. I told you they were two weeks ago when every one was on their junk as the best team in football, and I told you last week when they didn’t even crack my Top 5 teams in the NFL. They are a good team. But a good team led by Tony Romo would eventually crumble, as they did Monday night losing to the Colt McCoy-led Redskins. Please refrain from the injury excuse as well, because you know what? Brandon Weeden looked sharp in his fill-in time.

There are a ton of teams on bye this week. The Falcons and Lions get to rest after their trip across the pond. The upstart Bills are off, as are the Bears, Packers and Titans. That leaves 13 games on the slate for this week’s NFL action. Four of the five teams in the Wayniac Nation Power 5 (in order the Broncos, Cardinals, Patriots, Lions and Colts) will see action this week. So what should you pay closest attention to this week? Come on now, you know I got that answer for you!

It was an interesting week to say the least. TCU played a hell of a basketball game on Saturday. What was that, you say? That was their football team? Well, then, a wacky week it was indeed! There was also the World Series and early morning NFL action to go down that was second to none. This week, however, was also full of tragedy.

Three Big Stories for Week 8 in the NFL

Last week, I came on here and told you that the Cowboys were not the best team in the NFL, despite many pundits seeing things differently. If you saw my Wacky Week in Sports (click here if you haven’t), you will see I have acknowledged that the Cowboys are a legit team. But they still aren’t the best. That honor belongs to Peyton Manning and his Denver Broncos. They were the best team last season and ran into a hot Seahawks team that is struggling to stay out of the cellar in 2014. Manning now stands alone as the all-time touchdown king in NFL history. It’s a record that will continue to grow, and although they say records were made to be broken, I don’t know how this one would ever be.

Heading into the halfway point of the season, the five best teams right now are the Denver Broncos, the Dallas Cowboys, the Arizona Cardinals, the Philadelphia Eagles and the Indianapolis Colts or Green Bay Packers. All six of these teams have huge games this weekend that are must-wins to keep the likes of the Chargers, Lions and Patriots from continuing to climb to the top. The five worst teams right now are the Oakland Raiders, Jacksonville Jaguars, the New York Jets, the Tampa Bay Suck-a-neers and Atlanta Falcons. The Titans, Vikings and the Saints are probably all worse off than the Falcons, but this Atlanta team was supposed to bounce back this season and instead, they seem to be sinking deeper into the abyss that their 2013 collapse was.

The San Francisco 49ers and New York Giants both have off this week which means we got a pretty full slate of 15 games. What should you be paying close attention to this weekend? Well, that’s why you clicked on this article, right?

It was quite the interesting week. The World Series is set and it is a matchup I am willing to bet very little predicted. It was another wild one in the NCAA as another big seed fell and yet another was completely humiliated. And the NFL was the NFL, where you never know what is going to happen. The week started off great, as the Pats needed to block a field goal by the lowly Jets in the last seconds to secure a two point victory. How did the week end? Well, that’s what you’re here to find out, right?

Three Huge Story Lines for Week 7 of the NFL

This has to stop. These people telling us that the Dallas Cowboys are the best team in football must be silenced. They are a good team right now. They are extremely hot right now. That does not make them the best team in football. Just stop it.

Last week was a wild one in the NFL. The Denver Broncos had a mild scare in New York against the Jets, but at the end of the day they walked away with an easy victory. The Cleveland Browns showed that they are for real, winning their first game without having to come back from double digit deficits. My Texans proved they have improved leaps and bounds from last years catastrophic finish (and by finish I mean from Game 3 to the end of the season). They trailed the Colts in the first quarter 24-0, but J.J. Watt led a vicious comeback attack, and although they fell just short, they never gave up like Kubiak’s Kids would have. And yes, the Dallas Cowboys pulled off a very impressive victory in Seattle, dismantling the Seahawks in one of the hardest stadiums to play in, moving to 5-1. The Cowboys are rolling, but to anoint them the best team in football six games in with a proven choke artist at the helms is a bit premature. Not to mention, they are tied with the Philadelphia Eagles atop the NFC East.

The Eagles, along with the Suck-a-neers, have a bye this week. If so many people are jumping on the Cowboys bandwagon, why are the Eagles so quickly being overlooked. I think my friend and Philadelphia sports guru, The Law Dog, hit the nail on the head.

“5-1 is great. Black Sunday was a great game to go to. McCoy going off was fantastic (especially for two of my fantasy squads). I know this is a day to celebrate the Eagles, but I got to say…Foles is still not playing that great. 10 turnovers for a guy who in 2013 was praised as a protector of the football. It was the #1 rebuttle to Foles haters. Coming into this year, Foles’ biggest strength is now his #1 weakness. Eagles are -5 in turnover differential this year. There are 13 teams that don’t have a positive turnover differential this year. The other 12 teams are 17-49.”

Maybe the week off can get Nick Foles some rest. We here at Wayniac Nation don’t get a bye week. So, what is there to watch this weekend in the NFL? You know I have the answers to that!

It’s hard to believe that we are a third of the way through the NFL season. It’s hard to believe we are halfway through October! It’s even harder to comprehend what’s going on in the ALCS! That being said, we sports fans certainly had another eventful week in sports. College football was a bit tamer, walk-offs, and late inning heroics continue to shine in baseball and Peyton Manning keeps throwing touchdowns. He’s no Joe Flacco, however (Go BLUE HENS!)

Three Huge Stories For NFL Week 6

Well, folks, we learned quite a bit this past weekend. One thing is for certain: The Patriots and Tom Brady have plenty of life left in them. They’re also have classy cheerleaders, who donned Devon Still‘s jersey in support of his cancer-stricken four year old daughter, Leah. It brought tears to Still’s eye on the sideline and reminded us all to be #LeahStrong.

We also learned that Aaron Rodgers is back in the groove and up to his old mischief. He is simply unbelievable. How does someone in such a pass-happy NFL throw so many touchdowns and just ONE interception? Speaking of touchdowns, we learned that Peyton Manning is good at what he does. Manning threw his 500, 501, 502 and 503 touchdown this past Sunday, leaving him five shy of Brett Favre‘s record. Will he break it this week?

The Saints have a much needed bye this week. They had to fight back to beat the lowly Tampa Bay Suck-a-neers and Rob Ryan’s future has to be in question. The Kansas City Chiefs also have a rest week as they recover from a tough loss at San Francisco. That leaves 15 games on the menu. Which are the ones we should watch closest? That’s what I’m here for!

WOW! The only way this week could get any wackier would be if Kirk Cousins came out and dropped 500 yards and six touchdowns on the Seattle Seahawks on Monday Night Football. The BCS got turned upside down as Mississippi became the greatest state in the nation. The Dodgers untouchable ace got lit up and the Baltimore Orioles and the Kansas City Royals are in the ALCS. You can reread that again five times and it will make no more sense than it did the first time.

The WN Fantasy Football Report: Week 5 Starts and Sits

The Wayniac Nation fantasy football experts are really coming together. Last week, Dunton hit on his starts for you as Aaron Rodgers and Philip Rivers went bananas. Sure, they were easier picks, but he also told you to sit Tom Brady, who may be a sit every week now. Fee missed on Kirk Cousins, but he hit on sitting both Reggie Bush and Joique Bell who, like Brady, scored well under ten points. Ted Reed was on with Reggie Wayne as he dropped a season best 23 points. J.D. hit the nail on the head starting Matt Asiata who went off for 30 points, and his sit, Vincent Jackson, had three points until the final 30 seconds when he caught the game winning touchdown. Myself? I admit I swung and missed telling you to sit Eli Manning, but come on, the guy rushed for his first touchdown in a decade! If you started Big Ben and his 32 points like I said, you still did just fine. I was also right on starting Kelvin Benjamin, who is now a verified fantasy star, and Jason Witten, who wasn’t spectacular, but had his best game of the season to date. I also told you that if you had the gamble in you to go with Teddy Bridgewater. Coming off a 300-yard performance in his first game, I’d say I was right!

This week, only the Raiders and Dolphins are on bye, so your lineup should be pretty much in tact, aside from maybe Lamar Miller. There are some juicy match ups this week, and it is a pivotal week in fantasy. If you can get your team to its fourth or fifth win, you are cruising to a playoff lock. If you already have three or four losses, another one can end your season early. If you are sitting at .500, this is your week to start over and get going.

Three Big Stories for NFL Week Five

This week starts of on a high note as the only two teams on bye are the Miami Dolphins and Oakland Raiders, both of whom have been painful to watch thus far anyway. The Raiders, after nearly leaving him behind in London, fired head coach Dennis Allen after their brutal loss in Jolly ol’ England last weekend. Tony “The Godfather” Sparano takes over the sinking ship. I’m not sure why they think a coaching change will accomplish anything. Their backfield is a combo of two injury-prone old men in MJD and Run DMC, and they turned to Matt McGloin over Matt Shaub when their only bright spot, rookie Derek Carr, left injured. Quickly, name someone on the Raiders defense. Yea, I can’t do it either.

This week, the one o’clock games are a bit lopsided, but once the later games start it should be a fun slate right through Monday night. A lot of big names, like LeSean McCoy, Drew Brees, Eddie Lacy, and Montee Ball, have yet to have their signature big game yet but each have favorable match ups this week to do so. It’s not always easy to narrow it down to three big stories for you each week, but it’s fun to try!
