The WN Fantasy Football Report: Is Rishard Matthews a must start?

I love the fact that people turn to me for fantasy football advice. The ultimate reward is that the same people have kept coming back to me for the better part of three years. Where I once felt a lot of pressure to make sure I got the right people in their lineup, or told them to hold off on a trade that didn’t make sense, I’ve grown confident in my projections. For that, I thank you.

That’s why I try to choose some of the questions that are frequently asked of me in a post. Maybe you, dear reader, are pondering the same thing. Can you go to CBS Sportsline? Sure. NFL.com? Absolutely. They are reliable, to an extent, but they are aimed to the masses, rarely discussing the little guys that can be that ultimate x-factor. I’m just like you. I’m a fantasy geek that has been at this for 18 years, and when I look at a player, I see a number, not an athlete.

This isn’t real football, this is all about numbers. I don’t care about pedigree, I don’t care about wing span or how sick a one-handed catch you can make. All I care about is results.

You got to hand it to the Mets, folks. Win or lose, they certainly are involved in some of the more exciting World Series ball games of all time. Last night’s doozie from The K included an inside-the-parker, a network blackout, a Bill Buckner-esque scare on the night of the anniversary of the ’86 Mets win, a game-tying bottom of the ninth-home run and a walk-off sac fly win in the 14th. And there are six games left…

So, after waiting 30 years to get back to a World Series, the Kansas City Royals made sure that kind of gap wouldn’t occur again by making it to back-to-back Fall Classics. For the New York Mets, its the first time this millennium (but not century) that they have been this far into October. It’s the battle of two young teams, and one that should be awesome.

The Houston Texans: What do you do? UPDATED

I’m at a loss. My Houston Texans are bad, really bad. They have been bad before, but the abysmal 2-14 season had all the signs showing a meltdown and no one was really surprised that it came. Matt Schaub had lost his touch, and Gary Kubiak had run his course (about two year’s earlier, but you know that Rick Smith blind loyalty, folks!). This year, this is different, and this team is worse than that 2-14 team.

NFL Sundays with SBJ: Irrelevant jumps and drops

Weeks four and five of the NFL season saw SBJ go a combined 10-2 in his free picks for you and your bankroll. Last week, he admittedly was blinded by his own fandom, and didn’t have that SBJ record in which you have grown accustom. I can only imagine that after years of knowing of him, he bounces back with a perfect weekend. Listen carefully, boys and girls.

For those of you that follow along, you know that I started writing with NCAA.com last season right in time for the fall championships. Well, it’s getting closer to that time of year again. The fall championships are around the corner and that means that the games are that much more important and the players show that much more moxie down the home stretch.

Out in South Dakota, Northern State University is putting together a dream season on the Women’s Volleyball court. 21-0. Quite the accomplishment, that even is more impressive when you take into account that FIVE teams from their conference are in the Top Ten in the Nation.

I got to sit down with Head Coach Brent Aldridge and their senior setter Drew Smith and talk about this magical season. These are the interviews I love most, so I thought I would share it with the Wayniac Nation in my morning thoughts. Take a read, I’ve attached the link right below.

Yes sir, another amazing Thursday Night Football game is in the books. Man, I can’t believe I am saying this, but TNF may have to go. I love football, but TNF has been — for the most part — painful to watch. I would want the NFL to figure out a way to have football every night of the week if it were possible, but these games are horrendous.

The WN Fantasy Football Report: UPDATED Week 7 Starts and Sits

Big week ahead ladies and gentlemen. Four big teams are on a bye and there are many holes to fill this week in your lineups. First, let me give you the rundown on why you should trust us.

Saucy T was perfect on his picks for the third time this season. QB Andy Dalton‘s 243 yards and three touchdowns surely got you points, no matter what scoring system you play. RB Lamar Miller‘s 113 yards and a TD were certainly helpful while benching WR Antonio Brown (failing to reach 50 yards again) and QB Peyton Manning were both sits that you should have been able to find more points than.

Myself? Not as great as week 5, but I did pretty well. Hopefully you listened and started QB Matthew Stafford because a 405-yard, four TD is good for anyone. I nailed the RB Mark Ingram start predicting a two TD performance, and I also told you that with a new coach that was a former TE, that TE Jordan Cameron would return to the end zone. If you are in a PPR league, WR Jordan Matthews did ok with 11 points, but he certainly should have provided more.

When it came to sits, QB Russell Wilson wasn’t all that impressive behind an 18-point day. I told you not to mess with anyone in the Redskins backfield because I have been seeing so many people starting RB Chris Thompson after one decent outing. They COMBINED for 34 yards rushing and 37 yards receiving. And as I said last week, I had to start him because he was my best option, so I am perfectly happy with the fact that my TE sit of the week in TE Jimmy Graham was wrong. Now let’s see if he can get some consistency.

The Wifeyiac — after trading him to me — told you to sit RB Ameer Abdullah. Not only was she right for fantasy teams, but after yet another fumble, the Detroit Lions benched him as well. These females in fantasy I tell ya… the invasion is upon us!

This week is rough. No Packers, no Broncos, no Bears and no Bengals. That’s easily 20 top fantasy starters right there. So we dug deep for you this week.

The Chicago Cubs magical run in today’s random thoughts

Well, Back to the Future day ended, and like Robert Zemekis did when they promised us hover boards, they got it all wrong.

No, the Chicago Cubs did not win the World Series. And yes, they were swept by Daniel Murphy. But at the end of the day, Cubs fans should not be disappointed in the least, and in fact, should hold their heads high.
